GROVER: Online Grade System
How GROVER Works
GROVER in a Nutshell

GROVER exists to solve one problem: how to communicate grades to students in the most informative way possible while still protecting student privacy. GROVER is an on-line gradebook system that is student-centric, that is, focuses on providing detailed information to students, not just instructors.

The privacy aspect of GROVER is handled by a random-code, opt-in system. In order to find out their grades, a student must first request a code from their instructor. The code they receive will be automatically generated, not tied to their name, student ID number, date of birth, or any other identifying information. Futhermore, even when logged in with their code, the system does not display their name or any other identifying information. Even if a code is somehow discovered, the attacker still would not be able to find out which student it belonged to. The code can be easily changed (re-generated) at any time by instructor or student. If the student no longer wishes to have their grades available, they can easily and immediately have a class delisted.

GROVER also provides a wealth of grade information; in addition to seeing their numeric scores and percentages, GROVER shows the exact scores of all other students in the class (without identifying which score belongs to which student). These scores are presented on helpful graphs which clearly display the student's relative standing in the class or on any particular assignment. GROVER also provides a side-by-side view which shows each item, the maximum and minimum earned score for that item, the class average, the weight, and the student's score all in one graph. GROVER also provides forecasting information which shows the highest and lowest possible final score for each student based on the items entered so far.
